Vegas Gamers

Hey everyone!

My name is Ryan and I am a local filmmaker here in town. I'm interested in shooing a Doc about Vegas RPG gamers. Specifically, people who play the board games...not anything online. If you're interested in being in the film please contact me via email with a photo and brief bio.

Thanks guys!

This sounds way cool Ryan! I don't know about being IN the film, but I'd be happy to help if needed. Hopefully this isn't the "devil worshiping" slander that has been done about gaming in the past. ;-)

No, this is not slander and I'm not trying to mock anyone. I want to compile some footage of player interviews, games in action, and B-Roll of anything else. I have friends and family involved in his sort of thing, unfortunately they live across the country. I might get over there to shoot them, when I have the time.

Thanks for replying Mike! If you're not into being in the film...let me know if you know of anyone who would. I'm really looking for experts and others who are knowledgeable about the games.

Expert players and most of all, interesting personalities!

Oh! This is very interesting, especially considering that I have to do these kinds of things for my major. You know what, the comic shop I go to a lot is called Battlezone Comics. Wonderful owner, and there's always some games going on over there. We have d20-style games (D&D, Eberron, Star Wars, etc.) going on there on a regular basis, Friday Night Magic (M:TG), Warmachine/Hordes and a few other card games going on there daily.

I certainly wouldn't mind being in the film and an informant if you'd like; I've played M:tG, and various d20 systems for years now. There's also many more regulars over there who have been playing other games for years as well.

Feel free to send me a message! ^^

Kat,

I'd love to come by there and shoot as long as I have permission. Next time you're there, can you ask if they would be okay with a video camera shooting in there? If so, you let me know where this place is...and I'll make the time to shoot there. I'll have to look up where it is located.

Tell all of your friends!

Ryan,

I don't know if you are aware, but I'm sure you could get some footage at the Vegas Game Day events and at Neoncon this fall. If you would like more information send me a PM. - Steve

Doug told me about Neoncon. Yes, I'm totally interested. I'm ready to shoot as soon as I have the time. I just need the green light on these places.

I know you said include a pic and bio, but until I take time for that I would be interested. Computer representations of board games are an ok substitute for not having a live body to play with. Board games, strategy games are sadly declining due to computer games becoming more popular to this generation as did radio fall to tv, an tv to internet.

Thanks James!

I guess that is really one of the reasons I want the film to be more directed towards tabletop games. My goal is to get three or four very smart, interesting, and fun gamers to participate. If you're interested and you have friends that may be as well. Please let me know. Right now, I don't have anyone solidified to be in the film. I can't really pay anyone, but I can promise camera credit and exposure. I'll come to you, you won't have to come to me. I'm looking to shoot in various game shops, game activity, as well as gamer interviews...primarily.

James:

Not to contradict you, but hobby sales were down only slightly in 2008, despite the most difficult conditions for retail sales in a generation.

Some categories (like boardgames, which climbed nearly 20%) are actually in the up rise in this downward economy. The only two categories which seemed to not far so well are CCG's (Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and Pokemon held their own, but other CCG's struggled) and RPG's (a downward trend that has continued for several years).

D&D 4.0 sales have stemmed up the RPG sales slide a bit, but it would appear that other factors (pirated PDF's, one buyer - multiple players, etc.) are contributing to the degradation of this gaming type.

If you're curious, I've posted a list of the top selling CMG's (Collectible Miniature Games) and CCG's (Collectible Card Games) for the past Winter season on my website.

I will be posting the top sellers for the board game, RPG and non-collectible miniatures segments over the next few days.

I've been itching to get back to the gaming table... I LOVED Living Greyhawk and when that ended I tried a couple of "home games" here in Vegas for a few months... then I deployed. I'm back and am jonesing for more games! Has anything come of this…
